The three-day West Uyoma Free Medical Camp, held from August 28th to 30th, 2025 at Kamariga Beach, placed a strong emphasis on nutrition screening and education to address growing community needs around diet, wellbeing, and preventive health.
Throughout the camp, residents of all ages received comprehensive nutrition assessments, including BMI checks, anemia screening, dietary evaluations, and individualized nutrition counselling. Special attention was given to children, adolescents, pregnant women, and older adults, ensuring early identification of undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and diet-related health risks.
Nutrition officers and health educators conducted interactive demonstrations, taught families how to prepare nutritious, affordable meals, and provided guidance on balanced diets, maternal nutrition, and healthy food choices. SRHR and adolescent health information complemented the nutrition work, supporting a holistic approach to wellbeing.
The focus on nutrition screening not only helped identify vulnerable individuals but also equipped the community with the knowledge and tools needed to prevent malnutrition and build healthier, more resilient households.
The event was delivered in partnership with Afrikea, Acosein, CDI, NEI, Rotaract, and local volunteers, demonstrating the power of collective action in strengthening community nutrition and health.
